Welcome to our annual report of events, conservation efforts and chapter accomplishments for the past year. You may have noticed a few new faces on the board, a new fundraising event and a developing social media presence. And if you’ve been to the Brewers Art event you’ll know this year we kick off the celebration of our 40th year as a chapter. Commemorative glasses from that event will be available for sale at member meetings.
Last fall board members organized our first Restoration Run 5K race along Falls Road. The event raised $5,000 and also raised awareness of our mission to help native and wild coldwater fish thrive within Maryland. Kudos to the committee members who met each week for months to insure this event was a big success. This year’s race is scheduled for Sunday, November 13.
Be sure to watch the video of last year’s City Catch on our home page. If you haven’t volunteered you’re missing out on one of the best events of our chapter. Our members dedicated hours of time to ensure city kids had a great day catching trout with volunteer guides.
And if you haven’t found us on Facebook you can now follow chapter events, meetings and member fishing stories on our MDTU page. Just put Maryland Trout Unlimited in the search box and be sure to add us to your friend list.
You’ll be getting member meeting notices by email this year as we focus on conserving paper and mailing costs. We will mail a fall and spring newsletter but will use email and social media to announce meetings and events. Be sure to update your email address at member meetings or contact us contact@mdtu.org with your update. If you don’t have email, don’t worry. We will send along a post card to anyone who makes a request.
The best way to learn more about conservation of coldwater fisheries in our state is to join a committee. Contact any board member about ways you can help. We can’t succeed without volunteers like you.
Thanks to all who helped make this a great year,
Brenda Foster, MDTU President
