City Catch

Each spring MDTU stocks rainbow trout in Baltimore's Leakin Park , in preparation for "City Catch", a day of trout fishing fun and streamside learning for local students hosted by chapter volunteers in partnership with Baltimore City's Department of Recreation and Parks.

On Friday, April 14th we will be stocking 800 rainbow trout in Dead Run in Leakin Park. On Saturday, April 15th a group of kids from Baltimore City Rec Centers will arrive at around 9:00am to enjoy a morning of fishing with the help of our volunteers.

Each child receives a free spinning rod and reel, and bobbers, hooks, and bait are supplied too. Everyone has a great time. Lunch is served for all, and the event is generally over by 1:00pm. Please join us for this fun Saturday morning and help bring joy to a group of youngsters.

We need volunteers on two days:

Stocking the Stream. On Friday, April 14, we will stock 800 rainbow trout in Dead Run, a pretty stream in Leakin Park. Fish stocking, always a fun and interesting activity, will begin at approximately 11am. (Volunteers will receive specific details once known.)

City Catch: The City Catch main event is on Saturday, April 15. Volunteer orientation begins at 8:00am, the students arrive at 9:00am, and lunch is between noon and 1:00pm. Please set aside one or both days.

Many thanks,

Due to the pandemic, it was not possible to host a public event in 2021. To celebrate the potential of our urban streams and promote stewardship of our local fisheries, MDTU stocked Dead Run in Leakin Park, downstream of Winans Meadow, as a gift to the City of Baltimore. Special thanks to the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, and to Councilman Kristopher Burnett for their support of this effort. Check out a video of the stocking below:
